Visions in the Sea 2009
Martin Edge: May I say that...whatever you did at the weekend...it has the entire underwater photo world foaming at the mouth. The praise for you and all those who helped get Visions off the ground has been unprecedented. The wetpixel word was simply 'Wow' and it was. Something about you two as organisers, the venue at the City Inn hotel, scooping Cathy Church, the party on Saturday evening and also the pool session Sunday afternoon - culminated in a very enjoyable weekend for every single person I have spoken to.
Alex Mustard: I really enjoyed the whole event. I thought that your organisation and the venue(s) were the best of any of the previous Visions……Anyway, it was a wonderful event and I have only been hearing very positive words from those that attended.
Visions in the Sea 2009 is over! The underwater photography event of the year was a huge success raising in the region of £2000 for the Shark Trust. It was an inspirational weekend with presentations by 10 wonderful guest speakers covering a wide range of topics, including natural light, strobes, macro, filming underwater wildlife with images from around the world. The international competition was judges by our 1st class panel of presenters and with 120 superb finalists their work was cut out for them. See the competition page for the results! The gala dinner at The Palace hotel was a great evening and it was great to see everyone get dressed up. Our thanks go out to Duxy and Ali for doing so well with the Auction, Janet for singing and to Kristyna Myles and her band for allowing us to dance the night away. The last act of the weekend was the "Teach In" at our 5m pool with experts on-hand to help delegates improve their techniques.
A free exhibition of the finalists of each category from the underwater photography competition was on display to the general public and was reported on by both the written and tv press. All our guests also had access to trade stands from Frogfish Photography, Ocean Optics, African Space, CAmeras Underwater, Cayman Island Department of Tourism, NUPG, Dive Quest, BSoUP and , of course, the Shark Trust.
