We are delighted to have won the Caribbean Tourism Organization "Best Piece of Photo-Journalism" award for 2016. We won this for our article titled "The Bahamas - Shark Central" in Wildlife Photography World magazine which features some of the best shark diving the world has to offer: Great Hammerheads in Bimini, Caribbean Reef Sharks in New Providence and Lemon Sharks in Grand Bahama. The 13 page article features some of our favourite images from our two trips to the Bahamas.
We celebrated the award with the team from the Bahamas, including the Minister for Tourism, Honourable Obie Wilchcombe and Tourism
Director General for the Bahamas, Joy Jibrilu, seen in the image above, at the World Travel Market in London earlier in November. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism have helped us travel to the Bahamas to get the shots for our articles in Sport Diver, Scubaverse and Wildlife Photography World, as well as helping us get images for our two recent books
. As a thank you, we gave a signed copy of World's Best Wildlife Dive Sites to Honourable Obie Wilchcombe to take back to the Bahamas.
We are delighted with this award, as whilst we have both won several awards for our photography, this is the first to recognize our writing too. The award ceremony was held in a function room at The Fox at Excel in London and around 70 journalists were in the crowd waiting to see if they had won one of the 8 awards on offer on the night. The room was packed with representatives from the Caribbean tourism and travel trade, which made for a fantastic evening.
